Louis XVI Commode, 18th Century
A Louis XVI period commode, late 18th century. This elegant Louis XVI period commode is veneered in precious woods and inlaid with chevron marquetry and checkerboard fillets. The exquisitely crafted front features a perfectly symmetrical geometric design that highlights the rich grain. It opens with three drawers in the front, one narrower drawer in the frieze, and two drawers without crossbars in the lower section. The front uprights are adorned with superb mounts of chased and gilt bronze decorated with quivers, arrows, and garlands, typical of the Neoclassical style. The drawer pulls, keyhole escutcheons, and sabots are also of finely worked gilt bronze. The sides are inlaid with panels framed by fillets, within a simple and refined border. It rests on four tapered and fluted legs ending in bronze sabots. The top is of veined gray marble, molded with a corbel edge, perfectly fitted to the structure. Very good condition, beautiful patina, restoration respectful of authenticity. French work from the Louis XVI period – late 18th century. It measures 115 cm in length, 48 cm in depth and 82 cm in height.
