Large Venetian Wrought Iron Key - Italy - 16th Century
This remarkable key features a finely crafted openwork ring adorned with a radiating rosette design, characteristic of the Italian Renaissance style. The precisely cut bit has a complex cruciform shape typical of elaborate Renaissance locks. The cylindrical shank and the faceted ring attest to careful forging. The whole piece retains a beautiful, dark brown patina, with traces of oxidation consistent with its age.
