"young Fisherman" By Capodimonte
Artist: Capodimonte
Large white porcelain sculpture after Carpeaux and signed Capodimonte. This important white porcelain sculpture depicts a young child kneeling, holding a conch shell to his ear, a composition after Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1828–1875). The scene delicately and expressively illustrates listening to the sea, a theme dear to the naturalist and neoclassical aesthetics of the second half of the 19th century. The sculpture is meticulously crafted with beautiful treatment of volumes, hands, and face, and a dynamic pose characteristic of works inspired by Carpeaux. The piece rests on a molded octagonal base. The base bears the Carpeaux signature and is stamped Capodimonte. The dimensions of this work are: Height 36 cm, Base Width 16 cm, and Length 17.50 cm. Delivery available in France and Europe. In good condition, but with a few barely visible firing flaws (see last two photos).
