Empire Mahogany Armchair – 19th Century. Elegant Empire period armchair in mahogany, resting on four saber legs at the rear and cabriole front legs. French work from the early 19th century. Description: This armchair features a simple and refined structure, typical of the Empire style: a slightly curved back framed by straight mahogany uprights; scrolled armrests resting on cabriole supports; a simple and elegant seat rail; cabriole front legs and saber rear legs; a beautiful warm and glossy patina highlighting the wood grain; and upholstery in a green fabric with fine vertical stripes. The upholstery is in place, of a later period, with piping around the edges. Condition: Sound and stable structure. Beautiful antique patina with signs of wear consistent with its age. Fabric shows visible marks, wear, and small stains (see photos). Some minor scuffs and small dents on the wood. Reupholstering may be necessary depending on the desired aesthetic.
