Cape Horn Walking Stick Made From Shark Vertebrae, Dating From The 19th Century

Cape Horner's walking stick made of shark vertebrae and horn (the end of the handle, the rings, and the ferrule) with a rounded pommel.

Note: This object was given to the Captain by his crew after his first rounding of Cape Horn to thank him for successfully navigating the ship through the elements.

This walking stick was generally displayed prominently in the main room of the house to clearly signal to visitors that they were entering the home of someone important.

Similarly, this walking stick was often placed on the coffin of the deceased in church.
