Large Lyonnais Transition Secretary-Commode, 1900 – Butterfly Wing Marquetry. Exceptional secretary-commode of very large size, made in Lyon, French craftsmanship from the 1900s in the Louis XV-Louis XVI Transition style. This monumental piece is distinguished by its unusual proportions (177 cm wide), its highly symmetrical "butterfly wing" marquetry in a frieze pattern, and its overhanging solid marble top. The front features: – Eight side drawers – A central drop-front writing surface – Two lower central doors – Two side compartments with interior shelves. The interior reveals a tiered section with shelves and small marquetry drawers. The corner mounts and sabots are in gilt bronze. The legs are slightly cabriole. Dimensions: Height: 137 cm Width: 177 cm Depth: 45.5 cm Condition: Good structural condition, marquetry well preserved, consistent with its age. Marble top in good condition. A rare piece due to its size and hybrid configuration between a sideboard, a secretary desk and a storage unit.
