Giuseppe Guerreschi, “Girl, Sculpture, and Landscape,” oil on canvas, 1975
Giuseppe Guerreschi (1929 – 1985)
Girl, sculpture and landscape, 1975
Oil on canvas
170 x 170 cm
An important work from 1975 by Giuseppe Guerreschi, one of the leading figures of Italian New Figuration, characterized by a powerful synthesis of figure, symbol, and narrative tension.
The large square composition depicts a young woman sitting in an artificially elegant pose, wearing long stockings and shoes with chunky heels, an element that refers to an urban and contemporary imagery. The body, rendered with almost photographic precision, contrasts with the presence of a large stylized sculptural head that replaces the face, decorated with geometric and tribal motifs. In the background is a simplified urban landscape with architectural silhouettes and a pyramid, while in the upper left corner there is a small red symbol, another conceptual element that accentuates the suspended and alienating atmosphere of the work.
The scene combines figuration and symbolic reference, reflecting the cultural and political climate of the 1970s.
On the back: signature, date, and title.
The work is accompanied by the artist's authentication on a photograph.
