Dating from around 1890, this terracotta medallion appears to be a previously unknown portrait of the famous writer. The sculptor's signature is difficult to decipher, but it is possible that the last letter is a combination of the letters "u" and "d," hence "Gallaud." It would therefore be the sculptor and writer Marie Gallaud.
