A miniature cabinet, designed to be placed on a surface or hung on the wall, in the Neo-Renaissance style that was very fashionable in the last quarter of the 19th century. This small piece of furniture can be used as a cabinet for storing collections of objects, as shown in one of the photos, but it can also serve more functional purposes. The top of the doors features a semicircular molding with diamond-point bosses on the sides. The cornice is topped with a columned balustrade, the corners of which are surmounted by turned wooden elements simulating urns. The uprights are fluted and decorated with bosses, and the molded base is carved with scrolled consoles and supported by small ball feet. The back is made of oak planks joined end-to-end and placed vertically using the technique employed for large 17th and 18th-century furniture in the Rhineland. At the top of the back is an antique oval brass plaque with an inscription in German referring to a legal inventory. Two eyelet plates at the top of the back allow this small piece of furniture to be hung. The interior features shelves and a small drawer. Late 19th century: oak front, sides, and back; interior made of local wood and softwood.
