Unidentified artist, Portrait head of Gottfried Bischoff, 1953. Patinated bronze mounted on a natural stone base, 40 cm (total height) x 24 cm (width) x 25 cm (depth), monogrammed on the stand, dated 1953 and inscribed as Gottfried Bischoff (1866-1929).  


- Head with slight traces of corrosion, base with flaking in the front area   The expressive character head appears particularly intense because the face—as is usual for portrait representations—has a motionless, timeless expression, but at the same time shows an inner emotion that is revealed in the furrowed eyebrows. The subject seems to be looking into the future, which he has resolutely faced. The high quality of the artwork is evident in the virtuosity of the soft and equally precise facial modulation, in which every part of the head appears to have been shaped by life itself.
