"Baccarat - Pair Of Vases In The Japonisme Style, Circa 1880"
Pair of Baccarat vases in colorless blown and tooled crystal. The body is decorated with bamboo cutwork, while the shoulder features wheel-engraved foliage. The four-legged bronze bases are decorated with cherry blossoms in the Japonisme style. In very good condition, with two small, barely visible chips on the bases where they meet (see photos). Made in 1878, unsigned. Dimensions: 13.5 x 10 x 6.5 cm. After discovering Japanese art at the 1867 Universal Exhibition in Paris, Baccarat collected extensive documentation illustrating Japanese forms and motifs. This became a significant source of inspiration for the manufacturer, which adapted these designs for numerous pieces.
