"Binche, Commemorative Medal – Festivities, 1875"
A beautiful silver civil medal from the second half of the 19th century, issued by the Binche Municipal Administration for the 1875 festivities. The obverse features the town's coat of arms within an ornamental frame, accompanied by the inscription "Administration Communale de Binche" (Binche Municipal Administration). The reverse, richly decorated, displays a musical trophy composed of flags, a lyre, instruments, and an open book, surmounted by the Belgian national coat of arms and the motto "L'Union fait la Force" (Unity Makes Strength), a direct evocation of the civic context and musical societies of the time. The medal is of fine quality, with well-preserved relief, typical of Belgian commemorative productions under Leopold II. This medal offers valuable insight into the associative and festive life of Wallonia in the 19th century, at the crossroads of local history and musical tradition. It is in satisfactory condition with an old patina.
