"Pair Of Carved Panels. Allegories From The Early Seventeenth Century."
Allegories of Summer and Winter: A pair of walnut panels, lavishly and deeply carved with figures beneath arcades and capitals surmounted by winged angels and amidst foliate scrolls. One figure, female, symbolizes summer, holding a cornucopia in her right hand and an ear of wheat in her left; the other, male, has his hands outstretched towards a fire. These panels, part of former woodwork, still bear the strong imprint of the Renaissance. In good condition, with a small restoration beneath the male figure. Probably from Burgundy. Early seventeenth century.
