This lithograph, “The Magic of the Hours - Sunset,” is signed Henri Rivière and bears a red stamp in the lower left corner. The work is authentic and antique. Regarding its condition, there are small stains in the margin. On the lithograph itself, there are small stains and a slight diagonal crease. The lithograph is very fresh in color; once framed, most of the imperfections will be barely visible. Sold as presented. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then moved on to intaglio engraving, specifically etching, in 1882. Simultaneously, in 1886, he embarked on a career as a director and set designer, creating shadow puppet shows at the Chat Noir cabaret, performances which he enhanced by designing highly innovative, colorful sets. He then devoted himself exclusively to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted approximately a thousand watercolors).
