An elegant pair of portraits executed in pastel on 18th-century paper, depicting two nobles in period dress. The works display a refined sense of color and a soft rendering of skin tones, typical characteristics of 18th-century pastel portraiture.
The female portrait on the left shows a young aristocrat captured in a thoughtful, meditative pose, her gaze turned sideways and her hand delicately placed against her face. Her flowing hairstyle and gown with a low neckline and loose drapery reflect the gallant taste of the era. The other portrait depicts a woman in a formal dress embellished with lace ruffles, set against a barely visible landscape background.
The works are presented in carved and gilded wooden frames, dating from a later period but stylistically harmonious with the paintings.
