Neo Classic Grand Tour Medallions Framed
I see him returning from his journey, somewhat thinner, his complexion tanned, and his suit dustier than usual. Imagine, like in the parable of the prodigal son's return, after his initiatory journey, which must have cost a fortune... there at last is our dear boy, back safe and sound from his Grand Tour. Tomorrow, he can tell us all about his adventures... His words have been lost, but the frame of the neoclassical medallions, hanging on the wall, remains with us. There, undoubtedly thanks to the Italian sculptor Pamono, who preyed on well-educated young men embarking on their initiatory journey, one can see eight medallions of plaster and agglomerated marble dust: Epicurus, the renowned Greek philosopher; a Roman phalera, with the head of Medusa (or Gorgon) sporting her hair of snakes; a profile of Virgile; the medallion representing Pegasus, a poetic inspiration of the freedom the young traveler must have felt; then the three Graces (beauty, charm, and joy) (no comment from me); and the profiles of the Roman emperors Augustus and Vitalis. The wooden background and frame are entirely original. As I mentioned earlier, it's still hanging on the wall... but allow me to keep its location a secret.
