Very Large Antique Carved and Gilded Wood Mirror – Rocaille/Louis XV Style - 185cm High. Superb antique mirror with side panels, in richly carved and gilded wood, in the Rocaille/Louis XV style. The frame features a very finely crafted openwork decoration, composed of scrolls, acanthus leaves, and floral motifs, with a large openwork pediment with an asymmetrical design. The old gilding, probably gold leaf, has a beautiful period patina with natural wear that highlights the relief and authenticity of the piece. The mirror is mercury-backed, with a silvering that shows pitting and areas of deterioration consistent with age, without affecting the clarity of the reflection. The whole rests on a carved base forming feet, allowing for display on the floor or against a wall. Original backing with visible planks and fixings.
