Cal.: .45 S&W Schofield revolver, first model and first year of manufacture, serial number 25.
Break-action barrel, round, rifled, with a recessed top band, stamped L & P on the underside, marked on the left side:
SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS USA PAT JAN 17TH & 24TH 65 – JULY 11TH 65 – AUG 24TH 69 – JULY 25TH 71.
And on the right side: SCOFIELD PAT APR 1873.
Half-moon front sight.
Fluted cylinder, six chambers, registered 25. Collective extractor.
Single action. Centerfire.
Frame stamped L under the cylinder.
Wooden grip panels, marked 25 on the heel.
This revolver is one of the very first Scofields, No. 25; it is in excellent mechanical condition, with no play and perfect indexing; the inside of the barrel is marked, but the rifling is clearly visible and sharp. The exterior is tobacco brown and covered in places with dried oil. Slight orange peel finish on one side.
All original parts, screw heads in very good condition.
