"Cuval - Antique Grain Bag. Antep. Kurdish. Circa 1880. 133 X 127 Cm"
A very beautiful Cuval originating from the Gaziantep region in southeastern Anatolia. The piece is undoubtedly the work of the Kurdish population, who are the majority in this region. Cuvals are grain bags formerly used by nomadic peoples for storing and transporting grain. Their dimensions vary little as they correspond to a standard unit of measurement. This one has been opened, in other words, unstitched on the sides, to make it a piece designed to stand on the floor. Its compact form makes it a highly decorative object, easy to place in small spaces. It is also delightful when hung on the wall. Mixed media: weaving and Sumak. Wool on wool. The two bands made up of traditional motifs are embroidered on the surface. Sublime, incredibly fresh, plant-based hues. Indigo blue. Turquoise green... Exquisite. Circa 1880. Perfect condition. Dimensions: 133 x 127 cm. Laurent Beauty of Kilims
