"Daum Vase, Nancy, France - Japanese Quince Decoration - Height 37cm"
This pretty vase has a tall neck that flares slightly at the rim. Its long body rests on a circular pedestal. The piece is crafted from multi-layered blown glass. The frosted finish, achieved through acid etching, displays a chromatic transition from opalescent yellow to orange. The base is richly nuanced by inclusions of brown and ochre glass powders, creating a mottled, mineral-like effect. The naturalistic decoration depicts branches of Japanese quince. The woody stems and flower silhouettes were first etched with acid, then entirely reworked with polychrome enamel in relief. The flowers are rendered in a vibrant orange tone, while the foliage and branches feature olive green and brown hues. The flower centers are punctuated with delicate pistils, creating a sense of depth through the interplay of light and shadow. The signature of this vase, Daum Nancy, is anchored to the Cross of Lorraine. The slightly offset "France" inscription attests that this vase embodies all the iconographic codes and expertise of the craftsmanship. This Art Nouveau piece was made around 1920. Height: 37 cm; diameter at the rim: 11 cm. Made: Circa 1920. Excellent condition. The photos were taken with lighting aimed at the inside of the vase and a backlit panel.
