Paris, Charavay, Mantoux, Martin Publisher, circa 1900; folio, approximately 100 pp., publisher's full cloth binding executed by Engel after a plate by Souze, smooth spine illustrated with a stamped medallion, edges painted red, pages detached from the binding, in need of restoration. Illustrations by Job. Jacques Onfroy de Bréville, known as Job, was a French draftsman, caricaturist, and illustrator, born in 1858 in Bar-le-Duc and died in 1931 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. His artist's name, "Job," is composed of the initial of his given name, Jacques, and those of his surname, Onfroy de Bréville. His most renowned books include Murat, The Great Napoleon for Little Children, Let's Play History, Louis XI, Napoleon, Bonaparte, and Charlotte's Delights. He also illustrated the life of Washington and became known in the United States. A lively and cheerful artist, he was a member of the Society of Humorists and exhibited at the Incoherents. His studio has been recreated at the Metz Museum.
