Bronze commemorative medal – Marriage of the Duke of Berry and Caroline Ferdinand. Paris, 1816 – Engraver Bertrand Andrieu, signed ANDRIEU F. / DE PUYMAURIN DI.
Rare 50 mm diameter model reserved for high ranking individuals. 

Historical context:
Official medals struck on the occasion of the marriage celebrated at Notre-Dame de Paris, on June 17, 1816, between Charles-Ferdinand, Duke of Berry (son of the Count of Artois and nephew of Louis XVIII, and future king Charles X) and Caroline Ferdinande of Naples, granddaughter of the King of the Two Sicilies

Obverse:
Relief portrait of Louis XVIII, King of France, facing right, with circular legend LVDOVICVS XVIII FRANC LVDOVICVS XVIII FRANC. ET NAV. REX and the engraver's signature (ANDRIEU F.) below the bust.

Reverse:
Allegory of Hymen represented by a genius holding two wreaths of roses, one inscribed CAROLVS FERDIN. (Charles-Ferdinand, Duke of Berry) and the other CAROLINA FERDIN. (Caroline Ferdinand). Legend SPES. ALTERA. REGNI (Another hope of the kingdom) reflecting the dynastic importance of the marriage.
