"Carved Wooden Chest, 19th-century Tuscan Carver"
The small chest with an urn-shaped lid, finely carved with plant motifs, fantastical animals, and frames of every order and style, represents a revival of Renaissance models that developed especially in Tuscany in the mid-19th century and was inspired by the Sienese artists Giovanni Duprè and Alessandro Maffei. The carved statue, depicting, I believe, an allegory of the Arno River, is beautiful. The chest measures 50 cm high, 50 cm long, and 30 cm wide. In excellent condition.
