Antique Tibetan Buddhist Tantric Ritual Kartika (drikug) With Vajra, 36 Cm

An antique Tibetan Buddhist Vajrayana (Tantric) ritual kartika (drikug) mounted on a metal shaft and adorned with vajra (dorje) finials, dating to the 20th century.

This striking ceremonial implement belongs to the esoteric tradition of Himalayan Buddhism. The crescent-shaped blade represents the kartika, the symbolic flaying knife associated with tantric practice and the cutting away of ignorance and attachment. The vajra elements symbolise indestructible wisdom and spiritual power.

The axe head consists of a steel crescent blade fitted within cast brass or bronze mounts decorated with stylised foliate motifs. The central section and both terminals are formed as pierced vajra finials of pleasing sculptural quality.

Length: 36 cm.

A devotional and ritual object, likely intended for shrine display or ceremonial use within a Himalayan Buddhist context. The casting and construction suggest 20th century production.

Good condition. Surface wear and patination consistent with age. The blade shows oxidation and natural darkening. Structurally solid.
