Inscription on the reverse: +1534 'Vedi Piramo/ e, Tisbe insieme a/ L'ombra/ In. Urbino'.
The inscription on the reverse, describing the mythological tale, is taken from Petrarch's Triumph of Love (III, 20).
A plate with the same composition, figures, date, and inscription is held at Polesden Lacey (National Trust) and has been analyzed by Mallet. Both compositions are based on engravings used by Xanto Avelli.
