Antique 18th-century Piedmontese painting. Oil on canvas artwork mounted on the original stretcher, depicting a deer hunting scene with good pictorial quality. A beautifully sized and proportioned painting adorned with a non-contemporary 20th-century carved and gilded wooden frame. The painting unfolds horizontally; in the foreground is a nobleman on horseback with hounds hunting a large deer.
In the background, the painter inserts several almost sketchy figures to depict the events preceding the capture of the prey, seen in the foreground. This artwork has undergone some conservative restoration work over time. The stretcher has numerous inactive woodworm holes (see photo). The painting has a beautiful patina and is in overall fair condition. Internal dimensions: H 76 x W 91.5 cm.
