Nouveau Réalisme was founded in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany and painter Yves Klein, during the first group exhibition at the Apollinaire Gallery in Milan. Pierre Restany spoke of a "poetic recycling of reality," where everyday objects become artistic elements.
