"Convent Painting In Paperolles; Medallion Of Saint, Late 18th Century."
A delicate and authentic paper filigree work, a devotional art practiced in convents during the 18th and early 19th centuries. The composition is centered on a circular medallion depicting a young saint, likely Saint John the Baptist (an engraving hand-enhanced with watercolor). The medallion is framed by a remarkable paper filigree decoration, meticulously rolled and shaped by hand, forming a rich and harmonious vegetal composition: scrolls, foliage, stylized bunches of grapes, and Baroque motifs. The upper section is adorned with a symbolic heart, reinforcing the religious and devotional character of the work. The entire piece is applied to a background of antique fabric. The frame, dating from the same period (late 18th, early 19th century), is made of wood and gilded with gold leaf. Frame dimensions: 36.5 x 30 cm.
