"Shirvan Rug - Caucasus. Circa 1930. 145 X 120 Cm"
Superb Shirvan rug originating from Azerbaijan in the Caucasus. Woven and knotted wool on a cotton warp. The knotted knot is so tight that it immediately evokes silk production. Typical of ancient Caucasian rugs, the pile is short. From an aesthetic point of view, and even before delving into its composition, a rare elegance emanates from this piece at first glance. The subtle ochre-red hues in the central field provide a beautiful depth, framing eight magnificently crafted octagonal medallions, executed with extreme precision. A true work of art! Indigo-azure blues complete this vibrant composition. They appear on the larger motifs and the main borders. These are flanked on each side by secondary borders featuring cross motifs and a succession of crenellated geometric shapes. Circa 1930. Perfect condition. Compact size. Dimensions: 145 x 120 cm.
