"Christian Dreibholtz (1799-1874), Marine, Boats, Wash Drawing, Signed, Beurdeley Collection Stamp"
A very fine small watercolor by the Utrecht painter Christian Dreibholtz (1799-1874), a student of J. Chr. Schotel, depicting a lively seascape or river estuary, executed in pen and brown ink with gray wash on paper. Signed lower left, it bears the collector's stamp of Emmanuel Alfred Beurdeley (1847-1919) lower right, corresponding to number 421 Lugt. This renowned French cabinetmaker, antique dealer, and art collector, who in 1900 owned the most important private collection of prints in Europe, sold his collection of 6,115 architectural and ornamental drawings in 1888, which subsequently became part of the Hermitage Museum. This wash drawing is presented in an antique gilt frame with a beautiful patina, measuring 19 x 23.5 cm.
