"Traditional Old-fashioned Beehive"
This object is a traditional antique beehive (often called a straw hive or "bell" hive), made of wicker (willow or straw) and covered with a protective coating of raw earth (often a mixture of earth, straw, and cow dung, called "wattle and daub"). This type of hive was used before the widespread adoption of modern frame hives. The earth served as thermal insulation to protect the bees from both cold and heat.
