A charming ink wash drawing heightened with gouache, dating from the late 18th century, depicting a young girl reading with her pug on her lap. She sits in a window recess on a Louis XVI-style bench, a basket of fruit at her feet. The scene is reminiscent of Greuze's depictions of children. The painted and gilded wooden frame is of modern manufacture. In very good condition. Overall dimensions: 14 x 10.5 cm, and 12 x 8 cm visible area.
