Hard‑paste porcelain figurine, modelled and decorated with polychrome enamels, bearing on the underside the Capodimonte mark in underglaze blue.
Naples, first half of the 20th century, after a model by Claude Innocentius du Paquier of the Imperial Vienna Porcelain Manufactory, 18th century.
The figurine depicts a street musician playing the bagpipes; at his feet are a dog and a small board with two puppets exchanging tender affections. The composition demonstrates a precise understanding of the models produced by the Vienna manufactory in the 18th century.
Indeed, the Capodimonte manufactory of the 19th and early 20th centuries is characterised by a clear admiration for Viennese prototypes, whose themes it adopts while imparting a chromatic vivacity that is distinctly Neapolitan.
Condition: very good; no defects or restorations to report.
