Shunko Deshima Persian Cat Painting.
Artist: Shunko Deshima
Early 20th-century Art Deco gouache painting by Shunko Deshima. A very attractive period piece depicting a beautiful Persian cat with striking, clear eyes. Shunko Deshima was a prominent artist of Montparnasse during the Roaring Twenties and a friend of Foujita. This painter of the School of Paris, born in 1890 and died in 1940, was a renowned Japanese illustrator, engraver, and lithographer who was active in Paris during the first half of the 20th century. This is a beautiful piece demonstrating great mastery, combining Japanese sensibility with a Western influence reminiscent of Foujita. It is presented in its original, period-gilt wooden frame. Signed in French and Japanese in the upper left corner. A rare collector's item. Dimensions of the gouache: 18 x 23 cm.
