"Bartholomeo Schedone (1578-1615), Two Putti Seated Near A Basket Of Fruits."
Double-layered and parqueted panel. In very good condition, with some restorations mainly affecting the background. Dimensions: 51 cm x 39.5 cm. Giltwood frame with a reverse profile. Born in Modena in 1578, Bartholomeo Schedoni trained with the great masters of the Emilia region. He entered the service of the Duke of Modena in his native city, working in his palace. Between 1606 and 1607, inspired by Niccolò dell'Abate, he painted the frescoes in the council chamber of the town hall in Modena. Towards the end of his life, he retired to Parma between 1610 and 1612, where he was influenced by the style of the painter Giovanni Lanfranco, as can be seen in this work. His career ended tragically in 1615, the year of his suicide. This lost composition by Schedoni was known through a copy given to Sisto Badalocchio (Parma, Galleria Nazionale). The angel's pose as he receives fruit echoes another work by Schedoni, Cupid, housed in the Capodimonte Museum in Naples. Our work can also be compared to "Cupid in a Landscape," held at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg.
