A solid silver sugar sifter from the Restoration period. The bowl has gadrooned ribs and a scalloped edge. The handle is finely chased with small studs around the rim, a laurel branch, and a shield with the monogram "MD". Maker's mark: François-Pamphile Josan, active from 1824 to 1836 at 19 rue Simon Le Franc in Paris. Standard mark: Head of an Old Man, 1st standard, 1819-1838.
