Wooden Sculpture – Saint Cosmas (19th Century) Carved wooden sculpture depicting Saint Cosmas, shown standing, bearded, wearing a long draped tunic, his right hand raised in a gesture of blessing and his left hand holding a book. The base bears the engraved inscription "Cosmas," identifying the figure as Saint Cosmas, one of the twin physician saints Cosmas and Damian, who are very prominent in Christian iconography. This sculpture belongs to the tradition of popular or devotional religious art, probably intended for an oratory, chapel, or private home. European work dating from the 19th century. On display at the Galerie Courcelles Antiquités, 97 rue de Courcelles, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
