" Generous 19th-century Indo-portuguese Rosewood Marine Chest With Brass Decoration And Reinforcements"
A beautiful 19th-century rosewood marine chest in the Indo-Portuguese style, adorned with decorative brass and corner reinforcements, features bronze swing handles, a brass shield-shaped keyhole escutcheon, and reinforcing corner bands. The lid is decorated with rosettes and brass-edged corners. It opens to reveal a generous and richly decorated interior with a pattern of lines and arcades. A removable central tray reveals a large hatch. The four sides are embellished with small lidded compartments operated by a ring. Pockets and pencil holders complete the top. The lid contains a beautiful openwork gallery for documents and correspondence. This antique piece is in good condition, understated on the exterior and well-organized inside. It has its original key, which operates the lock and is of good proportion. An undeniable decoration and utility, except for travel; the density of the rosewood gives this lovely piece weight, preserved from time, free from pests and intact.
