Important Pharmaceutical Vanilla 1 Jug 9th
These containers are called vanilla jars… They were a common sight on the counters of pharmacies and druggists in the 19th century, and sometimes even held sticks of licorice. The story goes that the street vendor of a drink called "caliche juice" used these sticks to prepare his nectar… This is a rare object, made of blown glass, with rings applied while hot by the glassblower. The balloon above the base is curious, as if the glassblower had been inspired by a leech vase… Interior height 31 cm.
