"The Temptation Of Saint Anthony, Oil On Copper, Workshop Of David Teniers"
The Temptation of Saint Anthony was a subject painted many times by David Teniers and his workshop. Our work, an oil on copper measuring 22 by 16.5 cm, is presented in a 17th-century carved oak frame, entirely regilded around 1860. The back of the copper is protected by a wooden panel bearing on the front a provenance label: Eigenthum Irher Majestät der Kënigin Mathilde Von Württemberg (Property of Her Majesty M of W). On the back, there is an undeciphered pencil inscription signed Otto Meissner 1892. The composition is very close to the smaller version of The Temptation of Saint Anthony in the Louvre and of the same dimensions.
