"Louis XIV Period Walnut Chest, Périgord Origin, 18th Century"
Important Louis XIV period chest, late 17th/early 18th century, in walnut, in good condition. This exceptionally high-quality chest is composed of four panels around its perimeter. Each side panel is made from a single plank of solid walnut, as is the top. This is rare, as it requires the use of unusually large trees. The chest retains its original lock and salt box. It has its original iron handles on the sides. Original honey-toned patina. The very thick plinth features a pronounced molding. Note some old restorations consistent with age: feet, the salt box, and the lower floorboards. This very elegant piece of furniture can be placed anywhere.
