A finely engraved scrimshaw piece on a walrus tusk (marine ivory), depicting a sperm whale hunting scene with a marine anchor on one side; on the other, a sailor or fisherman standing atop a ship's mast, dating from the 19th century. This scrimshaw piece is in good overall condition. Note: slight nicks and small cracks on the edge of the ivory, some scratches and signs of age, see photos. *Scrimshaw: this English term refers to the craft of engraving by whalers on products derived from various marine mammals.
