A Fine Pentagonal Transition-Style Lantern in Chiseled and Gilt Bronze, c. 1790-1830
This pentagonal lantern, crafted in chiseled and gilt bronze, is illuminated by five interior lights protected by original flat glass panels. The upper section is topped with a glass smoke guard, from which five bronze arms descend, supporting the five-sided structure. The uprights are adorned with foliate scrolls at the top and beaded, leafy motifs at the bottom, framing a large glass door integrated into one of the panels. The base is enclosed by its original pentagonal glass.
Inside, a central stem holds five light arms fitted with simple sockets.
A remarkable French creation in the Transition style between Louis XV and Louis XVI, this lantern was manufactured at the turn of the 18th to the early 19th century, circa 1790-1830.
