"Reliquary Monstrance Of Saint Leo - Pope - 18th Century "
Within a large, gilded and carved wooden monstrance is a reliquary niche containing a bagged relic of Saint Leo the Great. Five popes chose Leo as their papal name and were subsequently canonized. The document designating him does not indicate his ordinal rank, so it is not possible to identify him precisely.
However, the monstrance bears the engraved word CARITAS on its upper part, and Saint Leo the Great (Bishop of Rome from 440 to 461) appears the most historically and theologically consistent choice, as Charity is central to his sermons.
Access to the relic is protected by clearly legible monastic seals.
Dimensions: 50 cm x 26 cm.
Very good condition.
