"Samurai Attack" for Hito in Francs-jeux, India ink drawing signed at the bottom, circa 1970 by Robert Gigi (1926-2007). He found himself at the famous Atelier 63 in Paris where he met Gaty, Derambure, and especially Poivet, with whom he trained. Spotted by the Société Parisienne d'Edition, he regularly published short stories in comic book form, as well as novel illustrations. He honed his skills in depicting women and teenage girls, notably through the magazines Fillette and then 15 ans. Moliterni chose Gigi to illustrate the scripts for Scarlett Dream, a charming and striking heroine who enjoyed great success from its first year of publication in 1967. While Robert Gigi excelled at erotic drawing, it was the representation of a fantastical and dreamlike world that he most appreciated. Collaboration with his partner Moliterni on the series Agar (Dargaud). Fascinated by Japan, particularly through the Japanese cinema of Kurosawa and Kobayashi of the 1950s and 60s, he published Hito in Francs Jeux, then created Ugaki, a ronin in 17th-century Japan. He teaches comics at the Angoulême School of Fine Arts. He has won several awards: the Prix Phénix at the Yellow Kid for graphic research, the Best Foreign Cartoonist Award in Lucca, Italy in 1969, and the National Cartoonists Society Award for Best Realistic Cartoonist in 1970.
