"Gold Snuffbox By René-antoine Bailleul, Louis XVI Period"
An oval 18-karat gold snuffbox in two colors. It opens with a hinge.
The decoration features alternating crosshatching with pellets and small flowers.
The edges are chased with foliage.
The body, with four panels framed by floral urns, repeats the same decoration.
The rim is engraved "SR".
It bears the hallmarks of Paris 1769-1770 and of the master goldsmith: René-Antoine BAILLEUL, admitted in 1769.
He is known to have resided on rue Harlay and whose specialties were jewelry and gold boxes. Weight: 61.8 g.
Dimensions: 5.3 cm x 4.1 cm x 2.7 cm high.
