"Murano Glass Table Lamp Attributed To Gino Vistosi – Italy, Mid-20th Century"
An important Murano glass table lamp, attributed to Gino Vistosi, "The Mushroom," made in Italy around 1960–1970. It consists of a cylindrical body in white opaline glass, diffusing a soft and even light, topped with an amber blown glass diffuser with bubble inclusions, characteristic of the Murano glassmakers' expertise, known as Bollicin glass. The glasswork, both masterful and sculptural, highlights the interplay of material and light in a decidedly modernist spirit. The whole rests on a sober and balanced composition, favoring the purity of form and the quality of materials, principles dear to Gino Vistosi in his lighting designs. The wiring is original and could be replaced over time; currently, it is in good working order. Period: circa 1960–1970 Attribution: Gino Vistosi Origin: Murano, Italy Materials: opaline glass and amber bubbled blown glass Condition: very good overall condition, functional electricity, slight signs of use consistent with age This lamp perfectly illustrates the Italian modernist production of the mid-20th century, where light becomes a true sculptural element.
