Cylinder Desk Forming A Bookcase – Louis XVI Period, Circa 1760
Louis XVI Period Cylinder Desk Forming a Bookcase – Circa 1760. An important Louis XVI period cylinder desk in solid Cuban mahogany, remarkable for the quality of its workmanship and the elegance of its proportions. A very fine Parisian piece from the second half of the 18th century. The desk rests on four tapered and fluted legs, terminating in gilt bronze sabots. It comprises three distinct elements: An upper section forming a bookcase, opening with two glazed doors (original glass) and three drawers; a cylinder revealing a richly decorated interior with compartmentalized small drawers; and a writing surface unfolding to reveal a leather-covered worktop. The stepped frieze opens with three drawers, while the side panels are decorated with fluting. The gilt bronze drawer pulls and keyhole escutcheons underscore the refinement of the whole. An exceptional piece of furniture, combining functionality, architectural balance, and high-quality cabinetmaking. Dimensions: Height: 173 cm Width: 108 cm Depth: 58 cm
