Large Polychrome Wooden Christ On The Cross, Early 19th Century
The 3D model provides a realistic animated preview of the objects. Please note that photos remain the reference.
Early 19th century, a polychrome sculpture of Christ on the Cross, sculpted in the round.
The body of Christ is depicted with a slender and naturalistic anatomy: a pronounced ribcage, a hollowed abdomen, slightly bent legs, and overlapping feet. The head, encircled by the crown of thorns, is inclined to the right shoulder, the eyes closed, expressing a profound gentleness mingled with restrained suffering. The loincloth, tied at the left hip, displays beautiful drapery with deep, dynamic folds. The original polychromy, now patinated, retains traces of flesh tones, with dark highlights accentuating the anatomical volumes.
