Gilt And Patinated Bronze Clock - Chronos, Father Of Time - Empire Style, Napoleon III Era
An important figurative clock depicting the winged Chronos, personification of Time, shown in motion, holding his scythe and bearing the circular dial integrated into the composition. A very fine sculpture in patinated bronze, enhanced with gilt bronze on the drapery, the scythe, and the dial. The movement is set within a gilt bronze dial with Roman numerals, highlighted by delicate chasing. The whole rests on a molded sea-green marble base, adorned on the front with applied gilt bronze decoration featuring a swan motif and medallion. Round, chased feet. A quality piece characteristic of the Empire style, made during the Second Empire, Napoleon III era (19th century). Servicing is recommended for proper functioning.
